Len Wiseman is an American director best known for his work on the Underworld series.
Background[]
Wiseman got his start filming music videos, and acting as a prop assistant. He wrote the script for Underworld with fellow writers Kevin Grevioux and Danny McBride, but the script was continuously turned down because Wiseman had no experience. Eventually, Lakeshore Entertainment picked it up, and Wiseman was hired as the film's director. With the success of Underworld, Wiseman went on to write, direct and produce its sequel, Underworld: Evolution. After being picked as the director of Live Free or Die Hard, Wiseman chose to stop directing the Underworld series, instead acting only as a producer and writer. He then produced and wrote both Underworld: Rise of the Lycans and Underworld: Awakening. During the same time that Awakening was shooting, Wiseman also worked as the director of Total Recall, a remake of the 1990 film of the same name, which received mixed to negative reviews from critics. Wiseman also oversaw the creation of the 15-minute anime, Underworld: Endless War. He was also one of the producers of Underworld: Blood Wars.
Trivia[]
Wiseman met his ex wife, actress Kate Beckinsale, while filming Underworld. At the time, he was married to a school teacher, and Beckinsale was involved with actor Michael Sheen; however, they both broke off their relationships and started seeing each other. Just before the start of Underworld: Evolution, Wiseman and Beckinsale married. In 2016, Wiseman and Beckinsale divorced.
